Call for Artist Entries: 

Texas Kountry Kitchen North Wall

The Dayton Community Development  Corporation in partnership with the Dayton Enhancement Committee and the property owner would like to commission an artist to design and install a mural on the North exterior wall of the  Texas Kountry Kitchen Building, which is located at 313 N. Main Street Dayton, TX 77535.

 

Design Guidelines

The artwork must stay within and fill the size limits described on page 3. We encourage artists to keep the design templates in mind when creating their submission. 

The artist should submit a design that fits within one of the provided templates on page 4. 

The artwork must be consistent with the theme described below.

Artwork must be original work and not contain advertisements or business promotions. 

Murals must be painted directly on the building facade or structure. 

 

Theme & Required Design Elements

The overall theme for the Texas Kountry Kitchen Building is Historical Dayton

The overall theme should incorporate the following historical elements, rice farming & farmer, train depot, and train. Examples of similar concepts and historical elements are detailed below.

The design should also include the following words/phrases:

Artists are encouraged to be creative in their design while staying consistent with the overall theme. 

Eligibility

This opportunity is available to anyone over the age of 18. Limit of three design submissions per applicant. 

Budget

An artist stipend of $5,000 will be paid to the artist selected to install the mural. Half of the stipend will be paid to the artist once the mural is halfway completed, with the remaining balance paid at completion. 

The Dayton Community Development Corporation will also fund the cost of the materials and equipment necessary to install the mural. These materials shall be sourced and paid directly by the Dayton Community Development Corporation. 

The selected artist will be responsible for their own travel costs, housing, and personal liability insurance. 

 

Selection Process

From the entries submitted by the deadline, the Dayton Community Development Corporation Grant Committee, the Dayton Enhancement Committee Mural Committee, and the property owner will jointly consider and select the winning submission based on the following criteria:

Quality of artistic composition

Creativity of the design

Incorporation of the Overall Theme

Evidence of experience in public art and outdoor mural art

Ability to fulfill submission guidelines

Since the Dayton Community Development Corporation is providing the funding, the DCDC Board must approve the winning entry. 

Entries must be submitted via email to: info@daytontx.com and only submitted to this email address. Entries that are provided to members of the selection committees outside of the formal submission process will not be considered and removed from the list of eligible entries.

Submission Requirements

Application Form.

Concept drawing and narrative description of the art design.

Timetable for completion of the mural.

Examples of other relevant work - maximum of 5 images.

An estimated cost of materials. 

Artist Resume or Biography.

Technical Experience Statement detailing experience with similar projects.

Art Location and Size

Measurements are approximate. Mural proposals do not need to utilize the entire wall but must not exceed the wall dimensions. 

Mural should not exceed 70 feet wide by 20 feet tall
